On Sunday September 3rd, 2000 we
visited the Old Graveyard of Rocky River Presbyterian Church on Rocky River Road
in Concord, North Carolina. This Church is among the oldest in the county and
this is among the older cemeteries in two counties. Among the interred are
several veterans of the American Revolution. The markers here date from the late
18th century into the mid 19th century.
This cemetery is located adjacent to a cow pasture and is somewhat overgrown.
The graveyard itself is enclosed by a stone wall about 2.5 feet high. We arrived
at the cemetery just before 2:00 PM - it had rained earlier in the day but the
sky was clear. This is certainly a cemetery worthy of further imaging and
electronic exploration...
On Friday, September 8th, 2000 we made a second visit to the olde cemetery of
Rocky River Presbyterian Church as well as a visit to the main cemetery behind
the church. Present for this investigation were Carson, Betty, Chris, Lisa,
Anthony, and Cody. The objective of the expedition was to collect digital photos
of the cemeteries under light of moon. We were not disappointed.
Our first stop was the Olde Cemetery located across from the church adjacent to
cattle pasture land. The cemetery is as described in the preceding investigation
of the same site. We arrived there at about 2300EST and remained there for about
30 minutes. Though we achieved some good photos and physically observed a few
temperature inversions - our EMF detector did not report more than a few
anomalies at this site. Cody and Anthony did observe that there was a single
mushroom growing in the cemetery and that this mushroom recorded 1.5 milliGauss
on the EMF detector. Assuming that the road in front of the cemetery runs
North/South: temperature inversions were most noticeable in the southeast corner
of the graveland.
On leaving the Olde Cemetery, we proceeded to the main cemetery behind the
Church. This graveland is well maintained and in good order. Markers here date
slightly more recent than at the Olde Cemetery but not quite modern era. This
cemetery, like the older, is encircled by a stonework wall of about 3 feet high
but unlike the older, this cemetery is gated. It is not lighted. We traveled
through the approximate center of the cemetery seeking EMF anomalies. There were
frequent alerts in the 1-2 milliGauss range throughout the yard and an extreme
reading at approximately center of the graveland at the grave of Jennett Pharr.
Readings at this location were in the 3-5 milliGauss range. No overhead power
lines or other electrical conveyance was observed. This area also marked the
beginning of a temperature inversion which manifested as a decrease in air
temperature as we proceeded (assumed) west towards the furthest wall of the
graveland. A field of static electricity (manifested by raised body hairs on
researchers) was physically observed at a point about 10 yards northwest of her
grave.
This cemetery presented with frequent psychical and physical anomalies and
high psychical energy. We considered that the higher rate of anomaly at this
graveland vs the Olde Cemetery can be attributed to the greater number of
interments in this graveland and the relatively more recent departures. This is
however only our theory.
We observed no other people and no animals while inside either graveland. On
leaving the confines of the main cemetery (about 0100AM EST) we were met by an
officer of the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department interested in the safety of
the graveyard. He advised us that there had been recent reports of vandalism in
area cemeteries. We advise other researchers that, if there are reports of
vandalism then there must also be vandals who may not appreciate our intrusions.
Greatest caution is then advised when researching in and around cemeteries in
this area. Teams should travel with cellular communications so that they can
immediately report any human activity they find inappropriate to local law
enforcement. Research teams should also be aware that, due to such past reports,
local law enforcement officers may be wary of researcher presence in gravelands.
We expect that this particular graveland is well watched by the neighbors and
community - researchers here should be relatively safe from vandals...
During a visit in late September 2000, Andrea observed extreme EMF readings
(well above 5 milliGaus) at a location near one of the entrances to the Church
itself. Local legend is that this was the location of a violent death in
the early 1900's. There was no obvious source of electromagnetic radiation
in the vicinity at the time.
We have visited this location several times and each time we are able to
capture anomalous images and find anomalous EMF readings. Study here is
still in progress.
