Town Creek Indian MoundIt was a particularly hot and humid mid-July [2000] day when Betty and I decided to make a day trip out to Town Creek Indian Mound. Neither of us had visited before. We found the area well kept and with very little traffic. In fact, we observed no other visitors while we were there. The staff of the park was very helpful and obliging. The only caution we make before making this trip is to fuel your vehicle before leaving Albemarle - there are limited facilities along the way beyond Albemarle. The ceremonial area is not tree covered and can be very hot in the summer, likely very cold in the winter.I'm not sure I agree with some of the archeological and social assumptions
the curators have made - with that aside... On entering the ceremonial
area I felt an absolute temperature reduction in the surrounding air and a
certain emotional energy. As we did not bring any electronic measuring equipment
on this trip; I can't give factual reports of the circumstances or determine
whether such changes were micro-climatic or situational. Further study here is indicated. July 1, 2001 We returned to Town Creek Indian Mound for further exploration. Attending this visit were Carson, Betty, Janine, and Andi. It is interesting that each of the two employees present this date mentioned an "Old Indian" apparition seen by some on the site. Our investigation didn't present any new anomalies other than occasional cold spots which will need to be further studied with digital thermographs. more to come... |
